Looking for something to do this weekend that can pay off financially? Spend a few minutes looking for lost money! Each state has a website that allows you to look for unclaimed money. If a business, financial institution, or government entity owes you money you may find out and claim payment on that website. Don’t just check your current state, check other states you may have lived in too. A few years ago, I found and claimed money due me from an electric company from when I lived in North Carolina in the 90s. Search at https://unclaimed.org/

You may also have unpaid wages due you from prior employment. You may search by employer at the U.S. Dept. of Labor website https://webapps.dol.gov/wow/

Are you owed a pension from a previous employer? Learn how to find out from the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation website https://www.pbgc.gov/about/pg/contact/contact-unclaimed

If you’ve had a FHA mortgage you may be entitled to an insurance refund. Check out the Housing of Urban Development site https://entp.hud.gov/dsrs/refunds/

Go to the Veterans Affairs database at https://insurance.va.gov/UnclaimedFunds/Search to search for unclaimed insurance funds owed to current or former policyholders or their beneficiaries.

Does the IRS owe you a tax refund? Find out at https://www.irs.gov/refunds

Think you may be due money from an investment enforcement case? Search the Securities and Exchange Commission’s database at https://www.sec.gov/enforce/information-for-harmed-investors

Have you been affected by a bank or credit union closure? Check the FDIC unclaimed funds website https://closedbanks.fdic.gov/funds/ and the NCUA site https://ncua.gov/.../conservatorships.../unclaimed-deposits

Find matured U. S. savings bonds that have stopped earning interest at https://www.treasurydirect.gov/savings-bonds/treasury-hunt/

Replace lost or destroyed savings bond at https://www.treasurydirect.gov/.../lost-stolen-destroyed.../

Are you owed money after a person or business filed for bankruptcy? The U. S. Courts Unclaimed Funds site can help you at https://ucf.uscourts.gov/
