Smoked Sausage Hero

Summary

Cook indoors or out – these sandwiches will warm you up!

What You Need

  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 2 tablespoons red wine vinegar
  • 8 thin red onion slices
  • 8 thin tomato slices
  • 1 green or red bell pepper, cut into julienne strips
  • 2 10-inch pieces French bread, split lengthwise
  • 1 1/2 cups (6 ounces) shredded fat free mozzarella cheese
  • 1 (14 ounce) package Armour® Smoked Sausage, cut in half lengthwise

Instructions

  1. Prepare outdoor grill for medium direct heat.
  2. Combine garlic powder and vinegar; stir well. Organize all remaining ingredients to make sandwich.
  3. Heat sausage over medium-hot coals (350 to 400oF) about 3 minutes on each side. Remove from grill.
  4. Layer bottom halves of bread with onion, tomato and smoked sausage. Drizzle vinegar mixture over sausage. Top with cheese and bell pepper. Cover with tops of bread; wrap each sandwich in foil.
  5. Place wrapped sandwiches over medium-hot coals and cover grill. Heat 20 to 25 minutes or until cheese melts and sandwiches are hot.
Variation

Oven Directions: Prepare sandwiches as above using unheated smoked sausage. Heat wrapped sandwiches at 375 degrees F for 30 to 35 minutes or until cheese melts and sandwiches are hot.
