Jalapeño Cheddar Waffles


These savory and zesty waffles are great to serve for game day snacks or weekend brunch. Beverage Pairing: Mountain Dew Kickstart Orange Citrus

What You Need

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • 1/4 tsp each salt and pepper
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 3/4 cups milk
  • 1/3 cup melted butter
  • 3/4 cup finely crushed Lay’s® Kettle Cooked Jalapeño Chips, divided
  • 2 green onions, finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup Fritos® Jalapeño Cheddar Flavored Cheese Dip
  • 1 cup guacamole, for serving
  • 1 cup salsa, for serving
  • 1/2 cup sour cream, for serving


  1. Whisk together flour, cornstarch, baking powder, baking soda, paprika, salt and pepper. In separate bowl, whisk together eggs, milk and melted butter until blended; stir into flour mixture until just combined.
  2. Fold in 1/2 cup crushed chips and green onions. Drizzle dip over top; fold in until incorporated. Preheat waffle iron according to manufacturer’s instructions.
  3. Ladle or pour heaping 1/2 cup batter into waffle iron to cover about two-thirds of the grid surface. Close lid; cook for 3 to 4 minutes or until steam stops emerging from waffle iron and waffles are golden brown and crisp.
  4. Sprinkle waffles with remaining crushed chips. Serve with guacamole, salsa and sour cream.
  5. Tip: Alternatively, for sweet and savory waffles, top with maple syrup and crumbled bacon.
